Wife is Shirlee M. Sloan born in AZ.
Currently living in northeast Smith County
(about 12 miles NE of Tyler, TX.)
Build this house myself in 1983 with a little help
from Jim Walker and some local friends.
This house burned down in 1095, but with good
insurance it was rebuilt better than is was.
After retiring from the Army in 1982. I went to work
for a company that made prefab housing. I learned
a lot about home construction. Stayed there five
years while I was building my own house.
Three years later the local hardware store
became available for sale, so I bought it in 1989, it
was small, poorly stocked and need some fresh
blood.
The store was too small for the conmuity and I
keep buying more stock until I ran out of room in
the old store.
I need to get a bigger and build a larger store. So I
applied for a Fed. Small Business Loan. It took
about a years, but I got it and started building a
store three times larger than the old one.
It took six months to build the new store with 3-4
times the more stock. There after busniess got
real good.
Sold the new store in 1999, and made a good
profit from it and then I fully retired. I was 59 years
old and had a very little to do, except work around
the house and hept my neightors when they
needed me.
Shirlee and I keep up with my old
Army buddies once a year with a
reunion in different parts of the
country.
The next reunion will be in Oct.
2010 in Columbus, GA. The best one
so far was in Reno, NV back in
2003.We have been going to these
reunions far over 15 years, 1995
I do have some medical problems
because of the war, but VA has
helped a lot. I am currently set at
60% disability.
Shirlee is also fully retired and now
drawing SS. She is in good health,
with minor health problems
Between the two of us, we have 13
grandkids, and all living in the East
Texas area. They all are a joy and a
pleasure when they come to visit.
Plan to just wait my time out here
and do what I can as the years come
on. Sure wish I was 35 again, think I
could change this world
You all are welcome to come visit us.
East Texas offers many things to do
and we have the largest rose garden
in the world here in Tyler alone.
Lakes are all over the place, I even
have three in my yard alone.
